Botany Bouncers
On Monday 10 August, our Botany Bouncers Basketball Team played a fast-paced, exciting game against Mt Richmond School. The skills and sportsmanship shown by the team was outstanding and we were very proud of each one of them.聽 A huge thank you to our supporters who cheered us on!

I joined the Botany Bouncers this year and our team is very good! We have training every Thursday during lunchtime. I get to spend time with my teammates and have fun. I enjoy playing, especially when we play against other schools.

Netball
During the first week of the July school holidays Wiremu Taka 12D9 represented New Zealand in the U17 Men鈥檚 International Netball Tournament vs Australia. Hosted in Te Awamutu, NZ played three games against Australia.
During the second week of the July school holidays Wiremu Taka 12D9, Jahi Onkoba 11J11 and Jesse Lindsay 11B13 helped secure Howick Pakuranga U18 Mens team a NATIONAL TITLE in Christchurch. In a thrilling final, HPNC beat reigning champions Waitakere by an impressive nine goals.
A huge congratulations to the boys, it鈥檚 great to see netball continuing to grow into a sport that everybody can enjoy
Badminton
On Thursday 6 August, players from the Premier and Open A Badminton Teams had the opportunity to represent BDSC at the Senior Badminton Auckland Champs over at Auckland Badminton Association. This competition took place over a day, giving us the chance to compete against a variety of strong teams from different schools.
Although it was a short event, it was a great chance for us to experience a different level of competition and meet new people. Throughout the day, the team showed great effort, determination, and resilience as we supported one another and stayed positive through every match. We faced some tough opponents and were able to learn from each game, identifying areas where we could improve while gaining more on court experience.
Although we unfortunately didn鈥檛 make it to the semi-finals, the competition was still an exciting day as it gave us the opportunity to test our skills against new teams. Overall, it was an enjoyable and memorable day representing the school and competing alongside our teammates. We are proud of the effort everyone put in throughout the event and grateful for the opportunity to play, meet new people, and gain experience that we can carry into future competitions.
On Tuesday 11 August, six of our Year 9 and 10 players competed at the College Sport Junior Individuals and Doubles Championships, representing BDSC with determination and enthusiasm.
The team consisted of Leo Chen 9E8, Brian Wang 9E8, Cuthbert Cheng 9B7, Emily Bai 10K6, Luna Yin 10K12, and Tyler Dreaver 10K6. Throughout the tournament, the students competed in both singles and doubles events against strong junior badminton players from schools across Auckland.
A standout performance in the Junior Boys Singles came from Cuthbert Cheng, and Tyler Dreaver, who reached the semi-final and final with Tyler finishing second overall.聽 Leo Chen and Brian Wang also had an impressive tournament, reaching the semi-finals of the Junior Boys Doubles.
The tournament provided a valuable opportunity for all six BDSC students to gain experience competing at a high level and representing their school. Their results reflect the hard work and commitment they have put into badminton throughout the year.
A special thank you goes to Mr Yu, who coached and managed the team throughout the season, and Mr McLennan, who also supported the students as a manager. Their guidance and encouragement helped the players perform at their best.

Underwater Hockey
Maddison Kitching 9D9 competed in the Howick/Botany Junior Underwater Hockey team. The team had an outstanding season. They finished with silver medals after an overtime loss in the final. The team are competing at the NZSS tournament during winter tournament week. We hope to have many more Botany students join Maddison next year.聽
Basketball
On Monday 17 August, the Basketball U17A Girls team competed in the Greater Auckland Basketball Tournament at Bruce Pulman Arena. The girls put on an outstanding display throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten in pool play and showcasing excellent teamwork and skill against strong oppositions.
Their impressive performances earned them a place in the Championship Final against Marist College. The team fought hard in a closely contested match and, after a fantastic day of basketball, finished as tournament runners-up, placing 2nd overall.
Congratulations to all the following players, Riane Barnard 10B1, Elva Cai 11B13, Mykaila Diaz 11K12, Ewen Huang 12D9, Mele Manuatu 13K12, Bella Perumal 11B13, Jana Riba Corral 10S4, Nie Thai 12S16, Precious Mary Villaflores 11J5, Ruby Zeng 11B13 and Coach Jun Gamiao on an excellent achievement. The team represented BDSC with great pride and should be proud of their efforts and success at the tournament.
